Lorenzo: "With Marquez and Acosta, MotoGP almost returns to the levels of the one with Rossi"

"Many times Marquez denied obvious things, such as the fact that the GP24 was faster than the GP23. Marc is 32 years old and has suffered a serious injury. He has reached his maximum limit and the only thing he can do is to hang on."

MotoGP: Lorenzo:

The best MotoGP pundit currently is Jorge Lorenzo. From the height of his world titles, victories with Yamaha and Ducati, but also knowledge of Honda and Marc for his last season by his side, the Majorcan recently spoke on DAZN's Open Paddock about Marc's recent move to the factory Ducati.

"I am surprised. First of all, the news of Jorge Martin signing for Aprilia. Then it became clear that Ducati wanted Marc Marquez. I thought it would be nice for Marc to be in Prima Pramac, with a GP25, but it's clear that their plan was much more ambitious," Jorge said, " We found out now. He played his cards the right way."

Everyone thought Ducati would be able to please everyone. It didn't turn out that way.

"The plan of Gigi and Ducati was to keep the three of them, to keep Jorge in red and, if possible, to keep Marc in Prima Pramac. But Marc did not have that plan and played his cards by saying he would not go to Pramac, that he wanted the red bike. I think Ducati got scared and the only chance to keep Marc was to put him on the red bike. The threat of 'if you don't put me in red, I'm leaving' worked."

In Lorenzo's opinion, there is an obvious reason behind the choice of the Bologna-based manufacturer.

"When Márquez came back to fight for wins, the MotoGP audience, even with Pedro Acosta in the category, increased. I'm not saying it's at the level of the good times of Valentino Rossi, but it's true that he is by far the most media-oriented. This plays an important role. Ducati realizes that he is 32 years old and can still have two or four good years. And he can retire in red, being a Ducati rider. That played an important role. Not counting, of course, the results he can give."

Jorge also went inside Francesco Bagnaia's head.

"Pecco does not want the atmosphere in the box to be ruined. Translated: he doesn't want a rider like Marc, he doesn't want a fast rider who can beat him. That doesn't mean that Bastianini couldn't do it. But in terms of sensations, Marc Márquez scares him more at the moment."

There is, of course, another side of the coin.

"Now there are no more excuses, as Marc himself says. Although publicly he has made them. Many times Marquez denied obvious things, like the fact that the GP24 was faster than the GP23. Marc is 32 years old and has suffered a serious injury. He has reached his maximum limit and the only thing he can do is to hang on. While his younger rivals can improve. This is the only thing that plays against him. This makes the forces balance out a little bit. If we were to compare the Pecco of 2019 with the Marquez of 2019, it is clear that Marc was three steps above. Now, with the same bike, it's not clear to me that Marc will beat him in every race."
