MotoGP, VIDEO - Massimo Rivola: "With Jorge Martin Aprilia will have no more excuses."

"We will have to fight to win the title. Espargarò played an important role in the negotiations. Renewing with Vinales is the priority, otherwise there would be a chance for an Italian. Marquez on the factory Ducati ? An extra stimulus."

Misano is in celebration for the Aprilia All Stars and Massimo Rivola, the CEO of racing for the Noale manufacturer, strolls contentedly through the pits. On one side are the MotoGP bikes, on the other the production bikes, not far away the 'old glories'. The event is successful and Rivola is enjoying it, although one can't help but also talk to him about MotoGP and this beginning of 2024

"Our bike showed that it is competitive," he says, " Aleix was fast from the first race, then Maverick came out very well, too bad for the gearbox breakage on the last lap in Portimao, otherwise he would have 20 more points, but above all another podium. What Vinales did in Austin is what we hoped would happen, also because of the improvement we have made over the years with him. Now we have to maintain this level and it's not going to be easy, because Ducati is improving and their riders are pulling each other and then there's Pedro Acosta, a baby phenomenon who we can only congratulate."

A few weeks ago you said you were going to wait in the rider market, instead you have already signed with Martin. Did you want to play it safe?
"Ni, we were trying to figure out what was going on so we could move quickly accordingly. When we saw that there were indecisions, we anticipated the moves because it was worth it."

It was a passing of the baton between Espargarò and Martin....
"Definitely Aleix played an important role and that makes it even better because Jorge is his best friend and he brought him to the place where he thinks he will be okay. For me that is the best compliment he could give me."

Taking a rider like Martin is a signal that from next year you have to aim for the title.
"There are no more excuses, that's what we told each other in the company: the good news is that Jorge is coming, I hope alongside Maverick because they would form a stellar pair, the bad news is that we will have no more excuses. The pressure has to go up because our path of improvement has to lead us to fight for victory. We are not far away this year, we are just one last step away."

No word on whether Vinales will stay, is the dream of an Italian rider in Aprilia still feasible?
"We are always consistent and correct toward our riders, Maverick is our priority, but marriages are made in two and we will not force his hand. If, as I hope, he wants to stay with us we will be happy, otherwise we will move on the market. An Italian would be a possibility, but we will also have to see if Oliveira will make that last leap that he still lacks."

Marquez in the official Ducati team: what do you think?
"To date he is one of the best riders in history on what is the best bike: I would be inclined to say everyone might as well be looking from 2nd place down. If I thought that way, though, we could stay home. So we will go with the knife between our teeth having an extra stimulus."
