SBK: Michael Dunlop, King of the Mountain: most victorious rider at Tourist Trophy

"I'm not better than Joey. I never have been." This is how Michael Dunlop commented his achievement this afternoon on the Isle of Man, where he made history as the all-time most victorious rider at the Tourist Trophy, breaking the record of 26 wins that had belonged to his late uncle Joey Dunlop since 2000.

Already winner of the first Supersport round, "The Bull" scored a peremptory success in the first race of the Supertwin class, imposing himself on Paton, by more than 20" ahead of Peter Hickman and over 34" ahead of Dominic Herbertson, who celebrated his first TT podium with a 3rd place.

It was a triumph thanks to which Dunlop won his second victory in this edition of the most famous of road races, bringing his total of successes in the competition to 27."Joey's record has stood for twenty-four years, and it's an honor. He was a special talent," noted Michael, speaking about the record he set. A record that, according to the 35-year-old, "will be broken someday, but I don't care."

Weather permitting, the new King of the Mountain will still have the opportunity to increase his victories as early as tomorrow, when Race 1 of the Superstock and Race 2 of the Supersport will take place.
