MotoGP, Acosta: "Marquez copying me is just as risky as me copying Bagnaia"

"I suffered a lot in the T4 today, and that affected me. We need to put more weight on the rear of the KTM to battle with the Ducati. In 2025, my entire team will be coming with me to the factory team."

MotoGP: Acosta:

There were four Ducatis in front of everyone on Sunday at Mugello, then a KTM appeared: Pedro Acosta's, 5th place in the Italian GP. The Spanish rider tried to keep up with the Reds, but he soon realized that he had no cards up his sleeve.

He, obviously had other expectations but, in some cases, you just need to settle with what you have.

"I got as much as I could today," the GasGas rookie said. "I struggled all weekend in the T4. At the beginning of the race I tried, especially in the T1 and T2, but then I couldn't do more. In the end, the top five isn't bad, and it's still a positive result. This is how our weekend went. In the first two sectors, I was doing well then, in the last one, I was struggling, without being able to solve my problems."

Pedro then talked about what he did.
"Unfortunately, I lacked traction in the last corner, and this aspect penalized us. We tried many things here to avoid vibrations and make sure we had a more natural style. Obviously, I regret not being able to repeat what I did on Saturday in the Sprint. I tried to push, but the others had a lot more. Marquez? I saw he was smoking, but I honestly don't know if it was the tire or the ride-height device."

The Spanish rider then takes stock of this start of the Championship.
"I don't think it was a disaster. Maybe we could've done better or even worse. In Le Mans and Barcelona, we missed two chances, but this is part of my growth project. Definitely, after these races, I think the situation is clearer, and I've learned many things. First of all, how to ride and how fast the MotoGP bikes are and, at the same time, how fast the riders in this category are. In this MotoGP, if you stay calm, you're left behind."

Pedro then focused on the race weekend.
"This track is very physical, and your pace really has an influence. Pecco was up in front. He handled the situation very well, so it didn't affect him physically. The same for his tires. On the other hand, if you end up behind, it becomes more complicated. Like I said, I finished fifth, I'm the best KTM, but that doesn't matter much because, in the end, the gap is important, and we arrived behind the Ducatis. Nevertheless, we're looking ahead at Assen with confidence, then the Sachsenring."

Meanwhile, tomorrow it's back to the track again for testing. Acosta is asked what he needs?
"Maybe we need to put more weight on the rear on the KTM, so that we have more grip, especially in mid-corner, since we then lose in terms of speed and suffer, among other things, in braking, like today in turn fourteen. That said, I don't think we have to do anything disruptive on the bike, just details. Unfortunately, here I suffered in terms of traction, and that took a toll. In fact, the race was boring at times. To compensate for the T4, I had to risk a lot at turn one."

Rewinding for a moment to yesterday, Marquez said he tried to copy Acosta in braking like him, but it's apparently too risky.
"The problem is that it's as risky for him as it is for me to copy Pecco. In both cases, it's because it's not your natural way of riding."

Lastly, he addressed 2025, coming as an official.
"I can say that all the work group I have now will be coming with me to the factory team."
