One of the first people Marc Marquez met in the paddock this morning was Paolo Campinoti. The owner of the Pramac team was certainly not happy about being snubbed by the Spanish champion, who declared yesterday that his team "was not an option" for his future. What did they say to each other? "We joked because we have always had a good relationship, above all sincere - answered Marc - we told each other what we think, obviously before saying what I said yesterday I had spoken with him."
Campinoti said today that your options B and C don't seem to me to have won many World Championship in recent years....
(laughs) "I could tell him the same thing."
Let's talk about your Friday on the track?
"It went very well, it is very fun and enjoyable to ride a Ducati at Mugello. I enjoyed it from the beginning, the basic setup was already good, I didn't touch anything and focused on finding the rhythm. After the first lap, it felt like a different circuit than the one I remembered. Everything was smoother and less undulating."
You also did well on the one lap with the 5th quickest time.
"If I have to tell the truth, I prepared more for the time attack and improved a bit, although I still have to do it, it's a slow process. I also changed the strategy, starting FP2 with the soft tyre to get used to it and it was the right one."
Where do you especially enjoy yourself on the Ducati?
"In changes of direction, in fast parts, because it 's a very stable bike that allows you to relax and play with your body. On a fast circuit, when the bike moves you lose a lot of confidence, but today I kept increasing it."
Better this Ducati or the best Hondas you've ridden in the past?
"It's different, but it's fun to ride this Ducati. Over the years the tyres and the bikes have improved, you go faster, but I felt comfortable. The more relaxed I am with this bike, the more I can try different things. Today I wasn't stiff, but it's only Friday and tomorrow is qualifying and Sprint. Today I had the pace to be in the top 3 and the goal is to keep it."
You said you didn't like this track, is it all credit to Ducati your competitiveness?
"I feel more competitive, but I'm still suffering. In Austin and Jerez I did not suffer, they are two circuits I like. Here, in Barcelona, in Assen I suffer but I can be competitive. Fridays like this have to become the norm."
Two years ago, right here at Mugello, you announced your last arm surgery....
"For that reason I'm having fun now, I've never celebrated a 3rd place as much in my career as I did in Barcelona. That injury changed my perspective on racing and life. I have suffered so much in the last 4 years and now I want to enjoy every good moment. Winning another championship would be super special, but this is a second life for me because I thought my career was over."
Is Bagnaia the main rival this weekend?
"At the moment he is the strongest, not only on the one lap but also on the pace. He has won the last two editions of the GP and is the favorite, but my goal is to be on the podium, it will already be difficult against Martin and Acosta."
