MotoGP, Vinales: "In Barcelona, the memory of Salom is a great motivation for me"

At Montmeló Aprilia scored a historic one-two last year. Espargarò: "it was the best weekend of my life, it won't be easy to repeat it but I will try"

MotoGP: Vinales:

Barcelona is a special circuit for Aprilia, not only because it is the home track of its two riders but also because of last year's results. Aleix Espargarò won both the short and the long race and, with Vinales 2nd on Sunday, the Noale manufacturer obtained a historic one-two. Clearly then, expectations are high for this weekend as well, with Maverick managing to 'unlock' himself by winning his first race on the RS-GP in Austin.

The ingredients to do well are all there, on a very technical track that the Aprilia seems to like as much as its riders. "Montmeló is a track that I like, I have a lot of good memories - Vinales confirmed - When I'm here I think of Luis Salom and that is great motivation for me. It's my home race and my whole fan club is there, so it's a track where I really want to do well. We are ready to have a good weekend. Our mentality is to stay focused so we'll do well and to give it one hundred percent."

Obviously, his teammate Espargarò is also eager to do well after a start of the season in which he has failed to reap everything that has been sown. For now, the podium in the inaugural Qatar Sprint is the only one in his trophy cabinet.

"Barcelona is a track that I really like a lot, it's my home race. The track suits my style well because there are fast turns and not many slow hairpins - were Aleix's words - It's a track where the bike works well. Last year it was the best weekend of my life and it won't be easy to repeat that, but we'll try to give it our all and get back out front."
