VIDEO - Leclerc: “Driving like this today was horrible, I’m disappointed”

“The car wasn’t balanced when braking. We had many days to prepare for this race, and I’m not happy. When you can get a second place, you have to. I couldn’t demonstrate our potential.”

Charles Leclerc proved he could keep up with Max Verstappen, at least on the flying lap. The  Ferrari driver from Monaco reached a qualifying time during the Q2, which would've placed him in pole in Bahrain, but he had to settle for a second place on the grid behind the reigning champion. He was hoping to at least attack in the race, but a problem with the balance of his car penalized him throughout the Grand Prix, forcing him to literally row against the tide to at least try to bring home important points, managing a 4th place that’s worth a lot but doesn’t soothe his dissatisfaction.

Driving like this was horrible,” Leclerc told our colleagues at Sky Sport F1. “I had a problem, and I felt I was driving badly in every corner. I think I blocked the tires seven times at turn nine or ten. Every time the brakes did something different, I had to drive all the way through the race with the balance in braking in the wrong settings. I brought the car to the finish, but I’m disappointed. We had many days to prepare for this race. I felt quite optimistic inside. Unfortunately, we didn’t demonstrate what could have been possible today, because the problem I had slowed me down quite a bit.”

In short, not very satisfied, despite a 4th place.
Satisfaction...  there are other satisfactions. I’m not happy, I’m very disappointed. When you can bring a second place home, you have to do it, and we didn’t do it today. Yes, we maximized the best possible result with what we had, but what we had wasn’t in the right place, so I’m not happy.”
