Luca Marini picked up more or less where he left off in Thailand. On the first day of action on the Sepang circuit, the Mooney VR46 team rider recorded the sixth fastest time overall. A result that only partially made him smile.

“I would have liked to start like Alex Marquez, who was awesome – he said immediately Overall I didn't do badly, but there is still a lot of work to do. The grip was really low and compared to the tests it seemed to be on another track. This is also why it's not easy to be fast."

There are many details to look at in view of the rest of the weekend, from corner entry to grip on exit. “However, I noticed that the others also struggled. It's a complicated track, long and with few laps available, so you don't have time to try many new things."

Having quickly finished talking about the two sessions held this Friday, the rider from the Marche moved on to talk about his future. Teased about HRC boss Alberto Puig's words about who will replace Marc Marquez in 2024, the 26-year-old dropped a sensational bomb, claiming to have the dream of joining an official team, albeit in due time.

“To go to a factory, you need the right opportunity. Staying there for just one year, especially in today's MotoGP is quite risky for a rider - he analyzed - Now I am feeling really strong, I’m improving a lot during this season and next year I want to be competitive and fight for the podium in every race and achieve better results, so this is my main target and I want to do everything to achieve it. So, I would say that things are going well. For next year I aim to take a further step forward."

His departure for Honda can therefore wait. “These matters need to be talked about with Vale who is the boss and with Uccio. Would such a move be crazy? The Desmosedici is a helluva bike, it’s awesome. It goes strong in every situation and adapts to all settings and riding styles. It is certainly complete, however creating one step by step is even better and can bring you greater satisfaction."
