Aleix Espargarò spoke to the media about the track and the rider market a few minutes before the announcement that Marquez is going to Gresini. The #93 Honda rider is clearly the hot topic of the day, but at the same time we mustn’t forget about the track, where Aleix and Aprilia are aiming straight for the top.
The goal is in fact to get back to fighting for the podium that has been missing since last September's round at Barcelona.
“This is a good track on paper for us – said Aleix – however there are some variants to evaluate such as the new asphalt and the harder carcass. Obviously Mandalika is not like being at Misano or Jerez, given that there is not much activity here during the year and as a result the asphalt needs to be cleaned."
In Indonesia there will also be the heat to deal with.
“When I think about India, that weekend was a nightmare. It was difficult to complete the session, in fact there were various problems. However, on the safety front we did a good job such as taking away three laps. Here too we will have a meeting with the riders to see how best to deal with the situation."
Aleix's attention then shifted to the exclusion of Pol in KTM from next year's grid.
“I prefer not to talk about this, it's better I don't say what I think. Next year I will see him less, but I am happy for him, because he will be able to enjoy his family and loved ones more without risking his life on the track."
Then there was also the subject of Marquez.
“I'm happy for Marc. It was certainly not an easy decision to leave the largest manufacturer in the world for a satellite team. I'm also happy for Nadia and the whole Gresini team, extraordinary people. Marc is the best rider in the world and he will be fast with the Ducati. I'm sure it will be fun next year."
In all of this there are those who maintain that Marc will have no rivals in 2024.
“That, no. Until 2020 it seemed that he could win forever, but in this world everything changes quickly. For sure at the moment the Ducati is the best bike and he will be strong"
