The Grand Prix of India is already over for Alex Marquez, who will not take part in either this afternoon's sprint race or tomorrow's race. The Gresini team rider had set the 2nd best time in Q1, gaining access to Q2, and he was still trying to improve when he was thrown from his Ducati at turn 5. The accident did not occur at a very high speed, but the impact on the asphalt was violent.
Alex stood up holding his side and subsequent tests, first at the circuit's medical centre and then in hospital, diagnosed the fracture of two ribs on the left side of his chest. The doctors declared him "unfit", that is, unfit to race. For Marquez the hope is to be able to get back on the bike in Japan in a few days.
