MotoGP, Tire-pressure penalties from Silverstone

As of now, there are no disqualifications but only penalties in terms of seconds at the end of the race. This system will be tested on Sunday.

MotoGP: Tire-pressure penalties from Silverstone

There’s something new for the MototGP riders at Silverstone. The Stewards panel has, in fact, confirmed that the British Grand Prix will introduce the penalty system for those who don’t respect the tire-pressure limits.

Remember that they started experimenting with the new system this season, with the same sensors for everyone, and the possibility of having the numbers in real time. After the first races, they’ve now decided to move on to the facts, albeit lowly. For the moment, even in the event of an infringement, no one will be disqualified and the penalties, at least for Silverstone, will be applied only for the sprint race and the race on Sunday, so the practice and qualifying sessions will be excluded.

The following are the penalties that will be imposed at the end of the race, until further notice:

-1st offence:  warning

-2nd offence: 3-second penalty

-3rd offence: 6-second penalty

-4th offence: 12-second penalty

As Michelin Manager Piero Taramasso explained to us (read the full interview  HERE), in order to be in good standing, riders must respect the minimum pressure established for both front and rear tires (1.88 and 1.68 bar, respectively) for at least half of the race distance.
