MotoGP: Mugello Grand Prix: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

At Mugello the music is provided by Bagnaia and all that remains for the others is to dance. At his own pace, of course. Constant, precise, it is difficult even to follow him. Martin and Zarco succeed, Marini tries, the two Marquez crash, Bezzecchi runs out of time.

Mugello in any case goes crazy, with the number of red flags rising just like the number of spectators on the hills, even if the good times when there was a full house are far away. Too bad, because the show was worth the ticket price.

THE GOOD – He has a cape like Superman, but with the colours of the Italian flag and he prefers his office to phone booths to change. He doesn't like Popeye’s spinach too much, better a hot dog, but he's fast and red like The Flash, when he gets on his Ducati. He is the new superhero of the world championship, his name is Pecco Bagnaia and his special power is to win. Nothing less.

THE BAD – A livery inspired by Dante's Inferno would fit perfectly on the Honda: ‘abandon all hope, ye who ... get on it’. To stay upright on the RC213 the only method seems to be by going slow. Obviously the riders have other ideas, in fact they crash (3 out of 4) and also get hurt (2 out of 3). It will still take time to see the stars again.

THE UGLY – Bad luck, penalties, stars in the wrong triangulation, whatever, not even the atmosphere of the home race woke up the Italians at Mugello. Moto3 has become a Spanish national championship, thanks to their merits. Our riders have the job of restoring some variety.

DISAPPOINTMENT – It was supposed to be the anti-Ducati, but so far it hasn't even managed to scratch the enemy battleship. Not even the curves of Mugello brought good luck, indeed, Aleix Espargarò even crashed on his bicycle. Aprilia are good, but they don't make a commitment. As the Prof would say…

CONFIRMATION - There are already those observers who are complaining, as if being good is a sin. From Gigi Dall'Igna downwards at Borgo Panigale everyone is and you can see the results. The Desmosedici has become a fairytale motorcycle: fast, smooth, constant. It’s obvious there was a happy ending.

MISTAKE - When you have a brother like Marc Marquez, you can always learn from him. But Alex must have taken the task too literally, because learning to crash was not contemplated.

SURPRISE – A bad one, though. That of Bezzecchi, who lost his bearings on Sunday and had a fight with his front tyre. In MotoGP, it doesn't take much to go from hero to zero, those in the middle of the group. The horse, however, is a thoroughbred, he will be able to make up for it.

PASS - Miller can boast of being the only rider who put his wheels ahead of Bagnaia's on Sunday. For a few hundred meters only, but you have to be satisfied with what you’ve got.

CURIOSITY - For the first time ever, Ducati put 4 of its bikes ahead of the rest in the premier class.

I TOLD YOU SO - "The Aprilia can be competitive anywhere; we just have to demonstrate it" guaranteed Vinales. The second part went AWOL.
