SBK, Bassani: “I’m a bastard, I’ve taken lots of blows, but I prefer giving them”

Axel as guest on Tuesday’s live show: “I say what I think rather than telling tales. You sometimes just have to not care about things. There will always be someone ready to criticize you. In Barcelona, I didn’t behave like an official rider should. I did in Misano.”

Genuine, true but, above all, jaunty and without mincing too many words. This is the Axel Bassani we spoke with during the live show on Tuesday night, post Misano. The Motocorsa rider showed his potential again in the Riviera, winning an extraordinary podium in Race 2 after two 4th places on Saturday morning and on Sunday afternoon.

The podium in Misano is a fantastic emotion,” he began. “It’s certainly nice, because seeing that people like me is the greatest thing. It'’s also good for those who didn’t believe in me. Obviously, tough times will come, but the important thing is to believe in it.

Axel definitely has a competitive ferocity, all of his own.
I’m a bastard. I’ve taken lots of blows in my life, but I’d prefer giving them. Having said that, on track, I have respect for all the other riders, because fairness is at the base of it all. I think we’ve been doing well lately. In Barcelona, I didn’t behave like an official rider would. I did in Misano.”

And what about his human side?
I’m someone who says what he thinks. The truth is that, in life, you sometimes just have to not care about things and do what you think. In the end, there will always be those who will prove you right and meet you half way. I want to say the truth and what I think in your face. Maybe it’s something we Venetians have inside of us too. In the end, no one likes telling tales.”
