MotoGP, Fast by Prosecco Le Mans, Pernat: “Three winners, but so much stress among the riders”

From the Le Mans GP, Carlo Pernat comments on the last race weekend, between winners and controversies. The Championship comes to life, but the stress among the riders is increasing due to the new “crowded” calendar.

The Le Mans GP had three moral and de facto winners. Marquez is one of them. Despite not racing on one of the most competitive bikes of the lot, he managed to fight at the lead of the race and for the podium, at least until the fall. His performance put his colleagues at Honda to shame.

Another one of the winners is definitely Marco Bezzecchi. A mature and experienced rider who was able to manage the race and beat his opponents. With two victories, he has definitely taken a place among the best this season and, even if it’s too early to say that the title is within reach, he will definitely be one of the stars of this championship.

The third winner is Tony Arbolino who, with his victory in the Moto2, the fourth podium in five races, has blossomed as a rider and is demonstrating maturity in  riding. In some ways, in riding and character, he reminds me of Valentino.

The other main topic is the drivers’ irritability, net of a schedule made even more stressful by the introduction of the sprint races. The riders are now forced to chase the result from Friday, with a busy Saturday between the FP3, Q1, Q2, sprint races, and shows in the paddock. Maybe they weren’t prepared  to handle the great revolution brought about by the Dorna. A mid championship meeting to talk about it would be necessary in my opinion.

Finally, we saw other accidents. In particular, the one between Bagnaia and  Viñales sparked a useless controversy in my opinion, for what was, in fact, a simple race accident. Overtaking is fundamental in a contact sport like the MotoGP, and it’s important to maintain the interest of the fans. Race management has to make consistent decisions between races, which should be correct decisions regardless of the riders involved.

The fact that accidents have tripled since the beginning of the season makes me still doubtful about the new format, but we’ll know more after the next three races at Mugello, Sachsenring, and Assen. Overall, we can be satisfied with this sport. as far as the Italian riders present are concerned, but the absence of new talent in the Moto3 is worrying for the future. For a few years, we can be relax. Now we’re waiting for Bastianini to return to Mugello.
