Valentino Rossi 2nd at Brands Hatch: “I needed this podium”

The Doctor didn’t fail in the second Sprint Race and celebrated with teammate Maxime Martin: “We worked well, I’m happy”

Auto - News: Valentino Rossi 2nd at Brands Hatch: “I needed this podium”

Valentino Rossi not only celebrated the victory of his rider, Bezzecchi, at Le Mans yesterday, but also his own podium at Brands Hatch. The Doctor was in England for the second round of the GT World Challenge Europe Championship. It wasn’t an endurance race this time but two Sprint Races.

The first one didn’t go too well, with a 15th place, but the second one was something else, due to a couple of penalties imposed on other drivers. Maxime Martin started in 3rd position, when Valentino took the wheel of the WRT team’s BMW M4. Thanks to an excellent strategy in the pits, he returned to the track 2nd and never again left that position, reaching the finish line only behind Mattia Drudi’s Audi.

I’m very happy and proud of the podium. It’s a second place this time as well, and not a third, so that’s better,” he stated, as he recalled his previous good result in the 24 Hours of Dubai.

We worked well all weekend. I worked on my driving and my team on the car,” he continued. “We had started far from the best, but we managed to be fast. Max did a great lap in qualifying. We started third. We worked all night Saturday on the driver exchange, and we were good.”

This season is important for Rossi, in order to understand what level he can reach on four wheels, and England smiled upon him.

I needed this podium because I had come close to it last year, but we didn’t succeed. We had a chance even in the first race in Monza. We did it, and it’s even harder in a sprint race.
