MotoGP, Morbidelli: "I’m keeping my feet on the ground, here it's easy to sink or get back up"

Franco Morbidelli was once again a protagonist in Argentina after a long period of difficulty: "This weekend's results are a good confidence boost. I gave everything to hold my position on Zarco, but for some laps I was lacking grip"

MotoGP: Morbidelli:

To all intents and purposes Franco Morbidelli was back (and finally) protagonist in the GP of Argentina at Termas de Rio Hondo, the second round of the season. The Yamaha rider backed up his encouraging performances on Friday and Saturday, offering a glimpse of the Morbido that enthusiasts, fans and insiders have always known during his long period of difficulty. Starting from the fourth grid slot, he remained in the leading group for the entire race, finally obtaining a fourth place finish at the line.

After finding himself in the podium battle thanks to the exit of his friend-rival Francesco Bagnaia, three laps from the chequered flag Morbidelli had to give way to Johann Zarco on top form: "I gave everything to keep the podium slot. The reality, however, is that Johann had a lot more than me at that point in the race - the 2020 world championship runner-up observed - for some laps I was lacking grip at the rear, I couldn’t have done anything else".

Although he just finished off the podium, he said he was happy to have recovered those long-lost perceptions on the M1: "Different conditions and situations in the dry and in the wet, and we were able to perform well on all occasions. We know we need to improve some areas where we lose out on the Ducatis, we will continue to work, but here our package has paid off. The improvements of the bike on the straights also proved useful in the wet".

The Italian-Brazilian doesn't provide too many details about how he implemented this step and is already looking to Texas: "We've made some small changes and we're starting to get to know the package better. I'm holding on to these results and now I'm curious to see what happens in Austin".

Whether or not Franco is back on the way up is certainly the hope, so he needs to confirm the excellent signs seen in Argentina: "I’m keeping my feet on the ground, I know how easy it is to get back up or sink in this category - he maintained - this weekend's results obviously represent a good confidence boost for me and the team and I look forward to Austin and the next tracks where I will try to maintain this type of performance."
