Enea Bastianini is more than ready to face the first season as an official rider in the MotoGP. After having porgressed a lot in 2021, with an unstoppable climb in 2022, the Beast will now have to take that last leap in quality in the Ducati Factory garage, which he shares with the reigning world champion, Bagnaia. It’s not the easiest scenario for a rider, but Enea has certainly proved to have nerves that are firm enough to withstand the pressure and ready to speak his mind in the championship.
In every single statement, he’s poured oil on troubled waters whenever someone tried to bring into play his alleged strong rivalry with Pecco, trying to ignite the flames of a controversy that, in fact, doesn’t exist. Both of these fast, young Italian riders, Bagnaia and Bastianini, probably share much more than we could imagine from the outside and, above all, they share a great intelligence. They are competitive, no doubt, and beating one another is the main goal of every rider in the paddock of any category. The fight will be an interesting one but, right now, the idea of comparing them to Rossi and Biaggi isn’t realistic, just to be clear.
Both are, however, smart enough to understand that one of the rivals to keep an eye on in 2023 will be Marc Marquez, who’s finally100% in shape and waiting to find out what Honda has done to guarantee him a bike. Bastianini offered his point of view on this topic to our colleagues at Marca.
“I think Marc Marquez knows he was number one,” Enea explained. “But right now, I don’t know if he still is. The results say that Pecco is now number one. We’ll see about that. I think Marc will be in great shape and be a contender for the title. He’s physically strong now. He’s fine.”
Bastainini also explained why he thinks that a dualism is being created with Bagnaia at all costs.
“We don’t understand it either, but that’s how it is. Maybe it’s because there hasn’t been a duel between Italians in a long time, which is what everyone would like. Of course, I’d also like to fight for the title with Pecco. It would be incredible, but everything is going well between us. Everything is exaggerated. The limits of reality have been exceeded. But then, in life, you never know. For now, I’ve always had a good relationship with Pecco. I don’t think our relationship will change because we’re teammates.”
Enea is also convinced that other Italians could end up being at the top in 2023.
“I’m sure another Italian will emerge in 2023. I think Bezzecchi and Di Giannantonio have the potential to be at the top. I’d like that because, the more Italian riders there are in front of us, the more interesting the situation that’s created for everyone will be.”
