MotoGP, Quartararo: "I’ve learned to have fun even when I'm not in front"

"Tomorrow it may be the most important qualifying of the season, but I’ve been giving my best since Qatar and I will continue to push myself to the limit"

MotoGP: Quartararo:

You can be happy even for a 7th quickest time, especially when it comes with used tyres and you are at a crucial moment of the season. Quartararo is, as if he had learned to smile again and to play his last cards with more serenity, without experiencing every lost position as a blow from which it is difficult to get up.

"I had good feelings in the dry - Fabio said about his first day at Sepang - I decided to push immediately, my pace was around 2'05" but the conditions were disastrous, the grip was really low. Especially when we compare it to what we had in tests, when the asphalt was in excellent condition after lapping for two days. In general, I'm happy, especially in the morning because I used the soft front tyre, it's not the best but we have to do it because we don't have enough mediums, and I went quite well. "

So using it you will definitely improve?

“Of course because our bike is very sensitive to the different front tyres. It is the first time that under braking, using the soft, I can be close to my performance with the medium, but the latter gives us more margin, not so much in absolute performance as in consistency, it makes everything easier for me ".

How did it go in the wet?

“The first exit was difficult, I stopped because the rear was sliding like crazy. Then, in the second I was fast right from the start, in the end I wanted to stop to put on the slick tyres but there were a few minutes left and I could only have done one, maybe two laps. I decided to stay on track also because usually, with dry asphalt and only a few wet spots, we struggle with rain tyres and this time it went well ".

No problems with tyre pressure in the wet?

“On the first exit yes, but we solved it immediately. At the end of the session, comparing myself with the best on wet tyres, I wasn’t far from them ".

Will tomorrow be the most important day of your season?

"I don't think like that, it may even be the most important qualifying of the year but in the end I have been giving everything I have since Qatar to get the best place on the grid. I will not change my spirit, I have nothing to lose, but I felt the same way in Thailand and Australia. Nothing will change, but I will push myself to my limit ”.

You seem to be enjoying yourself more than what you showed in the last few races.

"I had the opportunity to talk to some people and it went well because I always want more. In Australia I did very good qualifying, but I don't enjoy it when I'm 5th, I do when I'm up front. I had to get some thoughts out of my head, we have some problems with the bike and I just have to have fun. That's what I did today and I succeeded ”.
