The third to last Grand Prix of the season at Phillip Island was certainly the best of the year. There is no doubt about this. Our very own Carlo Pernat also agrees, summing up the Australian round in a few words.
"It was a great GP, one of the best of the season. On a circuit that values the rider more than the bike. There was an unexpected victory that Rins managed perfectly. A gift to Suzuki that next year will no longer be there. You could already see before the start that the difference between Quartararo and Bagnaia was mainly in the head, not only in the bike. Fabio also has a problem of concentration: he seems like the Frenchman of a few years ago when he got nervous at the first difficulties. Dropping from more than 90 points’ lead to the current 14 is confirmation.
At Phillip Island Ducati continued to dominate, even if Pecco did not win. When it was indicated to Bagnaia that Quartararo was out, the rider from Turin rightly eased up on the reins… Bezzecchi and Marini also had a good race and there was a good comeback from Bastianini, 5th with 12 overtakes. The return of Marquez is extremely positive. He tried to win, he is a newfound Marc. He will be a Marquez with something less because the others have improved.
The championship is now heading towards the end irrespective of the two remaining GPs. Ducati has the world championship in its hand. It will be interesting to see what happens in Sepang, where Bagnaia already has a chance to win the title, and then in Valencia.
Too bad for Aprilia which disappointed in Australia and now Aleix Espargarò will have to defend third place from Bastianini ".
