MotoGP, Quartararo: "Marquez had a slide and I hit the back: I don't remember the situation"

“After the crash, the marshal then hit another scooter, and we crashed. Luckily, I hadn't taken off my helmet. In three days, everything will be OK"

MotoGP: Quartararo:

Aragon turned out to be a bit of a negative Sunday for Fabio Quartararo. After what had been seen during the free practice sessions, there was expectation for the Frenchman, but his race did not last even one lap. Following the contact with the rear of Marquez's Honda, the world champion crashed to the ground, picking up several abrasions on his body.

All’s well that ends well, even if Fabio was disappointed about having been forced out before even starting the battle.

“I’m sore and burned – said the Frenchman - but it’s a shame because it’s the first time I feel good in Aragon in many years and crashing in the third corner was not the best. I’m having tough last races, but I’m still motivated to do more in the next races.".

Fabio then revealed a bit of background information.

“After the crash, a marshal hit the scooter. I had a second crash. It was quite fast actually. Luckily, I didn’t take off my helmet. But the marshal just hit head-on with another scooter, quite fast, luckily, I didn’t have anything from that crash. But everything I have is from the first crash. The marshal I think is a little bit sore also.”

Your contact with Marquez influenced your race.

“Marc turned well, but also had a slide. I had better traction, didn't expect it, and just hit the back. I don't remember exactly the situation, but it's a shame in just the third corner."

It is better to turn the page and start again, even if there is a lot of regret on his part...

“I’ve always been fast but never consistent at Aragon. I was super happy about my FP4, I was super consistent and fast. So, apart from the race it was a positive weekend and I’m really looking forward to going to tracks where we have not been for a long time. Japan is one of my favourite tracks, Thailand also. So, I will push my maximum to make the best there. I think fighting for the top five would have been a great result.”

The weather remains the unknown factor for Japan ...

“If it continues like this, it’s better not to go (he smiled). Japan is a track I love, hopefully we can race there because many riders have not been in Japan on a MotoGP bike, like Bastianini. I feel Japan can be a good track for us because even if there is a lot of acceleration, there is also a lot of braking. That is our strong point. So hopefully Japan happens. As for the abrasions, in three days everything will be OK”.
