The championship calendar will undergo some substantial changes next year. For the first time since 2007, the season will not start at the Losail Circuit in Doha, Qatar, as the start / finish pit area is in the process of being moved to the opposite left side of the track, so that a huge VIP village can be built for Formula 1 in the existing paddock.

Formula 1 will in fact be held in Qatar for ten years starting in 2023 (the 2023 race will take place on 8 October).

This was one of the already known modifications to the MotoGP 2023 calendar, the others have been reported by Speedweek, which seems to have got hold of a draft copy of the one usually given to the teams in advance. It has been circulating for a few weeks now and is confirmed by the fact that many hotels, the closest ones to the circuits, on the most 'sensitive' trips as regards the best accommodation, are already fully booked.

But let's have a look in detail. As already revealed by Ezpeleta, the first GP of 2023 will be in Portimao, Portugal, probably a tribute to FIM President Jorge Viegas, the date set is March 26, from there it will continue on April 9 in Rio Hondo, Argentina and then in Texas, but with a gap of a week, April 16, perhaps mindful of the disasters of the past when half of the teams travelled by bus and between various ups and downs, only arrived in America on the Thursday morning of the Grand Prix.

The next round in Europe has been confirmed at Jerez, as always, on April 30, then subsequent races follow the usual order with the exception of the Aragon GP which will precede the Italian GP at Mugello.

Anyone who expected to return to Finland finally after three years will be disappointed: the Kymiring, despite the arrival of a new backer who should settle the debts, is not on the calendar.

Obviously the one presented is still a draft calendar, as F1 and MotoGP are trying to avoid clashing dates, especially in overseas races.

The Grands Prix in Asia, Australia and the Middle East in September, October and November are therefore still provisionally on the schedule. Formula 1 will likely go to Suzuka / Japan on September 24 and to the Singapore night race on September 17.

Mandalika and Buriram will not necessarily be in this order, but they will still be one after the other because the material can be transported from one location to another by trucks and ferries to save costs.

If in the next few days Kazakhstan officials make a binding commitment to meet all the requirements of Dorna, IRTA and FIM in time, the race will be included in the 2023 GP schedule. If this does not work, only 20 Grands Prix will be held.
