MotoGP: Official: Joan Mir alongside Marquez in the Repsol-Honda team for two years

In one of the shortest and most meager communiqués in history, Honda announced today the signing of Joan Mir. This is not news, since the announcement was long overdue, but a confirmation.

Honda Racing Corporation are proud to announce the signing of Joan Mir. The 2020 MotoGP World Champion established himself as a World Champion-level talent from his first full season in Moto3 in 2016. In 2017 the #36 lifted the lightweight class crown aboard a Honda before moving to the intermediate class the following year. Alongside two World Championships, the Spanish rider has claimed 12 Grand Prix wins and 33 podiums. The 24-year-old will compete aboard the Honda RC213V in the Factory Team on a two-year contract alongside Marc Marquez.

"Once Suzuki announced its withdrawal at Jerez it was a blow that neither the riders nor the team digested - admitted Paco Sanchez, Mir's manager - It's the worst season of his career, with Suzuki dropping out or withdrawing it was a very hard blow to digest. The negotiations for his future have been hard and long. The whole team is very discouraged, many are looking for work and can't find anything. It is not the best environment for MotoGP. Joan is not dependent on this year's results, otherwise we would really be in deep shit. He has had a successful career, being a very consistent rider. This year there are really exceptional circumstances".
