Many had foreseen a tough weekend for Aleix Espargarò and Aprilia at the Red Bull Ring. Despite the new shape of the Austrian layout, as expected, they had to play defense at Styria. And, despite a not very exciting start from the ninth position of the grid, the Spanish rider tried to look at a hlf-full glass at the end of today’s race, where he crossed the finish line in sixth place.
“I tried everything. We were really fast the entire weekend in the second half of the track and really slow in the first. The engine worked well compared to the past, but we were spinning on the straight, which made us lose ground against our opponents,” he said. “In the final race, I simply didn’t have anything else to give because I stressed the tires a lot in the beginning, which were slightly too hard for us.”
Now Fabio Quartararo (today 2nd) is ahead by 32 points over Aleix Espargarò ...
“We lost points in the championship, that’s true, and I’m sorry. I’m, however, proud of the performance because we brought home the best possible result,” he emphasized. “The season is still long. We have to think from race to race. Soon we’ll have circuits that will favor Aprilia.”

“Yes. That’s why I’m satisfied. Even if it wasn’t enough.”

“I didn’t activate the starting device, so I really lost a lot of time.”
