MotoGP: Michelin Tech Talk: Silverstone

A dry but cool day at Silverstone, with track temperatures between 26° and 29° C and air temperatures of 18° to 20°.

In FP1 the riders all used the Soft front and Medium rear combination. The overall feedback was good considering the green track conditions and the cold wind. The Medium rear was slightly slow to warm up in the cool conditions, and this situation was made worse with the rather low grip levels of the asphalt. We will have to wait for the track conditions to improve to assess the true potential of the tyres.

There were better track conditions in FP2, and this allowed the riders to test the Medium front, which gave superior support and stability, but the feeling and feedback levels were reduced for the less demanding/aggressive riders/machines. The Hard rear didn’t work too well on the left side today due to the low track temperatures. However, the Soft rear used for the time attack runs worked well, with more grip and sometimes more stability than the Medium. Tomorrow we will check if the Soft could be a race option, based on whether it can go the full distance.
