MotoGP, Pedrosa: "Stoner opened my eyes when I figured out how he rode"

“It happened when he went with Honda. I didn't get it before. Marquez cares about his mind, after so many operations. He’s lost confidence. Another wild card? Not unless they have something new to test."

MotoGP: Pedrosa:

Even after his retirement from the MotoGP, Dani Pedrosa has never stopped being a rider. On two wheels, as a test rider for KTM (with a wild card last year at the Red Bull Ring), and on four wheels in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship. The Spanish rider has always been loved by his fans, and everyone would like to see him again in races, but it’s not clear if he’ll get a chance t race again.

"Not really, because the interesting thing is to do it when there are evolutions to test. If there was something that the official riders couldn’t use because of the regulations, then it would make sense," Dani's said during an interview with Marca.

Pedrosa also talked about KTM's difficulties this season.

"There have been some changes, and we’re still waiting for the results," he explained. "On the other hand, we have more important things to change on the bike, like the engine, and we can't do it yet because of the regulations."

What's new for next year is Jack Miller on the official team.

"I don't know him very well," Pedrosa admitted. "What I see from the outside is that he’s a very versatile rider and has excellent qualities when the conditions of the track are unique, and he adapts to different bikes. We have to wait and see."

If Honda doesn't want to talk about the crisis ("I don't know how things have changed since my times"), Dani knows what Marquez is going through, because his career has been studded with injuries.

"Everyone has their own way of dealing with these situations. It’s different very time," he said. "I’ve  undergone many operations in which the doctor intervened very well the first time. I was lucky. But I've had others where, I don't know why, the opposite happened. Then you fall into a spiral of operations on operations on operations on operations... Each one is more complicated than the last. It’s a process you never want to wish happens to anyone. You want it to go well the first time, because it’s the best for everyone. But, in this case, this situation occurred. I know, it's not just me, many champions have suffered situations like this."

How do you deal with certain problems?

"When the situation lasts a long time, that's when your self-confidence suffers. You spend more time at home or in the hospital looking for answers and wondering if your body will ever return like it was before. That’s why the mental aspect is important, and the fact of being surrounded by people who take care of you," he said.

Finally, Dani talked about Stoner. The Australian rider has often said that he learned a lot from Pedrosa, and the opposite is also true.

"I’ve been racing with him (ed. Casey) since I was 15 years old, in the Spanish championship, but almost always ion different teams. When he went to Honda, I knew how he did those things I saw on TV, but I didn't understand it. When I had him on the team, I figured it out. He opened my eyes, and I learned a lot. With Lorenzo, for example, I wasn't on the same team. So I couldn't figure out how he did certain things," he concluded.
