MotoGP, Bagnaia: "I'm always among the fastest, but Quartararo is the strongest"

"I have to work to become it and I will succeed. That crash cannot be explained by the data, but now we are always at the limit and certain things can happen"

MotoGP: Bagnaia:

Pecco Bagnaia is just unable to get over it, he can't understand what went wrong last Sunday in Germany. That crash on the fourth lap is a worm that is wriggling around inside his head, but he is unable to find it. A few days have passed, he is now in Assen and he spreads his arms outwards.

"I didn't understand it just because it's impossible to understand from the data - says the Ducati rider - But the only thing that I tried to do was be more critical and thinking more about what happened. And the only thing that came out was that more on the limit like this, it's easier to crash. So, from the data you can't see anything. So, this was the only thing that came out from that crash. For sure, it wasn't the best grip ever, but more or less it's always like this. So, I was already used to it. Probably next year at Sachsenring in Turn 1 I will go in a bit more calm."

Were you on the limit?

“Compared to a few years ago, these are things that can happen more often. Now we are 100% for the whole race, while before there were 20 laps at a fast pace and only the last in focus. Now we always lap with the same times, changing our riding style to do so, so that's the only reason that came to mind ".

You have to get over it.

"After the Le Mans crash I was the first one to go to my box and say sorry to all my team, because it was my mistake. But after this crash, it's so different that to understand why I crashed on Monday I spent the day trying to think on that, trying to understand why. But there's no answer for it."

So let's think about Assen, what do you expect?

“It will certainly be a very important race to go on a more relaxed holiday. In this first part of the season I proved to be among the fastest, at Sachsenring I was the fastest, but I missed being the strongest and they are two different things. Quartararo proved to be the strongest, more than last year. It's important to be faster, but I have to improve myself to get stronger and that's the hardest thing. I will try everything to succeed in order to always stay ahead ".

Do you still think about the title?

“Now I think only race by race, then we will see at the end. The championship is still long and it is not over, but I don’t doubt that getting ahead of Fabio will be very difficult. Let's start by giving our best and then we'll see where we are ”.

The weather seems uncertain for this weekend.

“As always here. Assen is a track that I really like, it's special because I won my first Moto2 race here and I had the perfect weekend in Moto2, when I was first in all the sessions and in the race. Last year it was difficult, in the race I was penalized with a Long Lap, but my pace was pretty good. This time we will find different conditions and I come here more competitive and prepared, I think we can do a great job ”.
