MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "Progress further? I don't dare imagine what could happen."

"This result is the result of what we did in Jerez. It was important to confirm that we’re progressing. In the race, our eyes are on tire management, but it’s difficult to say if I’ll be able to leave my mark."

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

Fabio Di Giannantonio is becoming more constant in the top positions of the MotoGP. Fresh from his sensational pole position at Mugello, the Gresini Racing Team rookie was the star of the flying lap today, reaching the 5th absolute time in the official qualifications at 357 thousandths from poleman Aleix Espargarò at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmelò.

"Since yesterday, we’ve done an excellent job along with the team. This isn’t the result of Mugello, but of what we did in Jerez, where I started to feel more comfortable on the bike. Even though no substantial changes have been made in terms of set up,” the rider from Roman  emphasized. “We’re on the right  track, and we’re in fifth position. That’s why I don’t dare imagine what could happen if we managed to progress even further."

What will be the key to bring home an excellent result?

"Simply, not putting too much stress on the tires at the start. Otherwise, the race will end even before starting. With the technicians, we’ll try to make the bike as gentle as possible, in this respect, and then attack in the second part."

Do you think you can aspire to something more concrete?

"Even if we don't have to prove anything to anyone, first of all, it was important to confirm that we’re progressing, and what better way than to have another good qualification like today. But it’s difficult to say if I’ll be able to make my mark in the race. At the moment, I don't think I have the pace to do it. Tomorrow morning’s warm up will help us dispel our last doubts, even about the choice of tires," he admitted.
