MotoGP: Jorge Martin set to miss Barcelona tests to undergo surgery in Modena

According to Motorsport.com, Pramac-Ducati rider Jorge Martin will undergo surgery on Monday to resolve nerve problems in his right hand that have prevented him from riding normally for several weeks.

Martin will be operated on at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the University Hospital of Modena by Professor Fabio Catani, director of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the AOU of Modena, and by the hand injury surgeon Luigi Tarallo, eminent specialist in the sector. The operation has been coordinated by Ducati, a manufacturer with which the rider has a contract until the end of the season.

Martín began to feel discomfort in his right hand during the official tests at Jerez in early May, a situation that worsened during the French Grand Prix, where he crashed during the race after completely losing sensitivity due to the entrapment of the nerve.

"My hand went numb and I couldn't feel the brake lever, at the end of the corner I didn't feel if I was braking enough, I went long and crashed," he explained after the race.

After that weekend, together with his team and Ducati, Martin decided to have surgery and he do it after the back-to-back events at Mugello, where he again suffered a loss of sensitivity and was unable to ride normally, and at Barcelona, this weekend.

Finally, the operation will take place this Monday, which means the rider will miss the important official MotoGP test at Montmelò, but the goal is to recover as much as possible for the German Grand Prix, from 17-19 June, so the doctors felt there was no time to waste to try and get him to the Sachsenring.
