"He would say I can do a bit better".
In the meantime, everyone puts you as favourite for the place in the official Ducati team next year.
"Actually, it's something I don't think about too much, I'm in a very efficient structure, the climate is good and I have a very competitive bike, even if it's from last year. I'm happy, if the future is in the red… I won't say no. I am estranging myself from these speeches to focus on the championship, because as soon as you get distracted for a moment you end up behind. What matters is to stay on track ".
You are 8 points behind Quartararo, do you believe you can win the title?
“In my opinion the possibilities are there, but I know very well that the opponents are tough. When Fabio is in form he is really hard to beat, Pecco has returned to his potential and I am very surprised by Aleix, he is doing an incredible championship and I did not expect him to be ahead in all the races, he is starting to be dangerous. It's a very competitive season and I think it will make me sweat ”.
Meanwhile, a rivalry with Bagnaia is emerging...
“I like it because I have known Pecco for a long time and we have always fought a lot, even when we were little, and no one has ever held back. It's a positive fight, it's not Biaggi against Valentino, we respect each other a lot even off the track. I like this rivalry because we ride on the same bike and I think it spurs us both on ”.
At your side you have Alberto Giribuola, Dovizioso's former crew chief.
“Pigia is strong, he's a great person and a good technician. He has understood what I need, Andrea modifies the bike a lot, but I always remain close to the base. At the moment it is working, every time I get on the bike I start from where I left off ”.
And what can you tell us about your manager Pernat?
“What is there to say about Carletto? I taught him how to use Tinder! (laughs). In Argentina he didn't know how to do it, but after 5 seconds he had become a master (laughs) ”.
How are relations with Dall’Igna?
"I like Gigi as a person because he is not as he is seen on the outside, he is not as shy as he appears. We share many things and listen, he is not stubborn and is very open ”.
How do you spend your free time?
"Fishing has always been my second passion, when I'm at home I like to go fishing, I always try to carve out some time for myself".

“Casey rode the Ducati hard and it wasn't the one we use now. One day I would like to try the bike on which he won the World Championship, maybe if one day the title arrives I will ask him ".
Let's change the subject, many riders complain about the difficulty of overtaking due to aerodynamics. What do you think about it?
“We have been on tracks like Portimao and Jerez, where it is difficult to overtake, because they are narrow and the straights are short. At Le Mans it would have been easier but in the race it wasn't, I just had to brake a meter later to go long, the asphalt seemed to have no grip. In Qatar and Austin there was a lot of overtaking ".
Isn't there a risk of arriving at those Formula 1-style train races a few years ago?
"It is probable, because the bikes are really fast and we are all at the limit: overtaking becomes difficult".
Is turbulence following another bike a problem?
“You can feel it quite a lot, especially on long straights, when you're in the slipstream, the bike gets out of shape. It is absolutely not easy, we are at the limit, it would become a problem if the bikes went even faster ”.
