Jake Gagne was in no mood to take prisoners yesterday and after clinching pole, he also won Race 1 in Virginia. It was an encounter dominated from start to finish by the Yamaha rider, who hauled himself back into the title race.

The American controlled the situation in the early stages of the race, defending himself from the attacks of Danilo Petrucci, before breaking away and leaving his rivals behind. As for Petrucci, the Ducati rider managed to gain two positions at the start, taking second place in the exhausts of Jake's R1.

The reigning champion, however, proved to have an extra gear over the opposition, so much so that Danilo struggled to keep pace, to the point of being overtaken by Mathew Scholtz. After going wide in one corner, Petrux’s comeback was made even more complicated, because Petersen also managed to pass him, relegating the Italian to fourth position.

Danilo could not do anything else but call it a day, while Yamaha took all the spotlights with the top three riders on the podium. Tomorrow, at 21:10, Race 2.
