Carlo Pernat's commentary on the French Grand Prix is particularly sweet for the manager, seeing that his protégé, Enea Bastianini, gave Ducati and Team Gresini their third gem of the season. The World Championship is progressively taking shape. Ahead of everyone there's still Fabio Quartararo but, according to Pernat, the next few races could be a problem.
We then have a seriously struggling Honda with its champion, Marc Marquez, who's still a bit dull at the moment. Here's all of Carlo's commentary, over an ever pleasing Prosecco DOC, given the unexpected heat at Le Mans.
"It could have been a Ducati hat trick, a triumph. If Bagnaia hadn't fallen, it would have been an incredible day for Ducati. It hasn't been since the days of Valentino Rossi that an Italian rider wins three Grand Prixs in the first seven races held ... and won in a very clever way. Today, Enea put pressure on Bagnaia, then passed him. We must say that Pecco is an official rider who, when he sees a rider from his own team pass him, he goes nuts. That's what happened to him. He tried to pass him again, and then he went straight. If he had been happy with what he had, he would have scored twenty more points. A champion must also be able to settle, like Fabio Quartararo did today. He got off to a bad start and made a great comeback. He battled it out with Marquez and is still leading the world championship.
But Bastianini was the one who had a fantastic day. He started off well, kept up with Miller, passed him at the right time, and did the same thing with Bagnaia. And that's something that is in the mind of great champions, not only of great riders. Of course, today in the rankings, there are three riders up front with eight points. Quite a championship. They are the three most credited now, Quartararo, Espargarò, and Enea Bastianini.
Aprilia is confirming itself as a competitive bike but, unfortunately for them, only with one rider. I must say that Aleix is always on the podium, and he could fight for this world championship all the way. Of course, the choice of the second rider doesn't seem like the best guess at the moment. Vinales is struggling, not changing his riding style. He might not necessarily maintain his position.
Yamaha has Fabio Quartararo, who has proven to be a champion even on a bike that's inferior to the Ducati. But now come two tracks that are definitely not favorable to Yamaha, namely Mugello and Barcelona. There are crazy straights, and the Yamaha gets more km/h on the Ducati there. Yamaha now lives for Quartararo. It's best they forget about Morbidelli, Dovizioso, and Binder.
Frankly, KTM continues to have problems everywhere, with two riders who aren't riders they should win a world championship with. It's a shame. Honda got a shutout, if it wasn't for Marquez who occasionally gets some results. Marc now has big problems with his shoulder. He's waiting for a new frame to arrive, maybe as early as Barcelona. But he's not the Marc we know. Bad choice for Pol Espargarò, who definitely gambled his position. Also a bad race for Suzuki that, with the announcement of its retirement, has put everything in a bit of a tailspin. Maybe both riders are looking for a place in the future, but then they go and make mistakes like today.
The market is boiling over. There are two less official bikes and two less official riders. It'll be like this until June, and we'll see some good ones."
