MotoGP, Puig: "Neither Honda nor Marquez expected these results"

The team manager takes stock of the situation: "We know where we need to improve, but we need time. We haven't lost our motivation.”

MotoGP: Puig:

Honda’s problems continued in Le Mans. "We starting to run out of ideas in the garage," said a disconsolate Marquez, 6th (thanks to Bagnaia’s and the two Suzuki’s falls) with more than 15 seconds after Bastianini. Marc was once again the best on the RC213V, with Nakagami behind him, while his teammate, Pol Espargarò, finished 11th at almost 23 seconds, and his brother Alex 14th at over 28.

"Clearly, it wasn’t the result we expected or were aiming for,” manager of the official team, Alberto Puig, said. “Of course we aspire to achieve as much as possible. That’s always our goal, but the reality is that we’re facing some problems. We’re still trying to figure out how to reach our true potential. Even this weekend in Le Mans wasn’t easy."

It's not just Puig who's disappointed.

"In terms of results, it's not what he expected either,” he said, referring to Marquez. “Of course, this race wasn’t a complete disaster, but we have to look at the overall situation, and this isn’t our real position and clearly not Marc's position."

So the question is: how do you react?

"We know where we need to improve,” the manager said. “We need more time to test what we believe can help us solve the problems we have. For now, we have to continue working and wait for these solutions to arrive in Europe as soon as possible."

Seeing the glass even half full is difficult. Puig tried.

"All our riders managed to finish the race, but I think the only positive point is that we’re not happy. This is very positive because, in racing, when things go wrong and something isn’t as expected, it’s very easy to lose motivation, but this isn’t our mentality. We intend to react, improve, and return to achieving the results we set for ourselves," he concluded.
