Three wins out of seven, Enea Bastianini continues his triumphal march with the Gresini team Ducati. He is the only rider to have won more than one GP this year and the classification is smiling his way, with a gap of only eight points behind Quartararo. At Le Mans he rode with his head, chasing the two factory Rosse and leaving no chance for Miller first and then for Bagnaia.

“Miller and Bagnaia were fast, but my pace was similar to theirs. In the first part of the race I stayed calm to see where I could attack Jack, I did it but Pecco was really fast and overtaking him was difficult because he brakes late. I did it in the first sector, where I was faster than him. Ducati was very competitive on this track and I have to continue like this ”.
Did you have a strategy?
“Not really, on the contrary it was important for me to stay behind Bagnaia because I learned from him how to change some trajectories. Maybe I was just lucky (laughs) I don't even know why I was so fast in the final stages on a track where the tyres don't drop much. "

"I won with my head, because I waited for the right moment to attack Bagnaia and made him nervous. I'm glad I did it. In truth, after he passed me again, the plan was to wait for the end to try again. With hindsight, I discovered that it was better to stay in front, I did the same times but with less effort ”.
Is this the start of a rivalry with Bagnaia?
“I think it's positive. Maybe I'm the rider who bothers him the most, because I'm Italian. I read that he would like to continue to have Miller as a teammate, maybe I put pressure on him when he saw me next to him ”.
Is this result also important for your future?
“I'm happy to be with Ducati, I can ride this bike well and I think it's the best option for me. I still don't know which team I will be in, we will understand in the next races, but Ducati has offered me a nice package and I have proved that you can also win in a satellite team ”.
Would you mind leaving the Gresini team?
“I'm not thinking about it yet, I prefer to stay focused on the championship. The time will come to decide but, as I said, with the right package you can also win in a customer team, I'm not worried ".
Speaking of winning, you are eight points behind Quartararo.
“They are nothing, I'm having a fantastic and unexpected championship both for me and for the guys on the team, because it's a whole new team. But I still have to improve because I struggle too much on the tracks where I suffer. Like at Jerez, I changed a lot on the bike but the times were always the same. Maybe it's also because of my riding style, I use the front a lot, so it's something to work on and solve, I hope as soon as possible ".
It’s Mugello in a fortnight, what is the goal?
“I would like to start, unlike what I did last year! (when he had hit Zarco at the end of the sighting lap, ed.). I'd like to get a good result, I've never been able to. The goal is to get on the podium, if I can also fight for the victory, I won't hold back. The important thing is to show that you are always fast ".
