MotoGP, Martin: "When I was 8 years old, Rossi patted my head. I didn’t wash my hair."

"It happened in 2006. I was 8 years old. It was the first GP I saw. The GP22 is much easier to ride in corners. Last year, the maximum speed was our great advantage, while it’s not this year. We have to recuperate the advantage."

MotoGP: Martin:

After two accidents and two zeros, in Qatar and Indonesia, Jorge Martin finally took home the first points of his season from Argentina, with a great second place.

Immediately after the race, he only had nice things to say about the opponent that beaten him, Aleix Espargarò, who is also a great friend of his, so he had no difficulty in celebrating the podium with him.

"It was a long night,” Martin confessed. “We had a lot of fun, and we sprayed Prosecco. Aleix and I started the evening together, but then we went our own ways. I was very tired, but we really enjoyed the moment."

In 2021, the Spanish rider closed the GP of the Americas in fifth place.

"Last season, I was really fast in Austin, and I fought long and hard for the podium. This year, I had trouble in the first two races keeping my pace during the race. Fortunately, it worked better in Argentina.

The start of the season didn’t go as expected. The GP 22 had grip problems and, currently, the best Ducati rider is Enea Bastiani, third in the World Championship, but with last season’s Desmosedici, the GP21.

"The GP22 is much easier to ride in corners. But, last year, maximum speed was our great advantage while, this year, it’s not. We have to recover our advantage in speed but, overall, the potential of the bike is greater than last year."

The Austin GP is the 500th for the new course of the World Championship, the one managed by Dorna, and Martin recalled the first moment he entered the paddock.

"In 2006, I entered the MotoGP paddock for the first time in Valencia,” Martin recalled. He was only eight years old at the time. “I had met Valentino, and he patted me on the head. After that, I didn't wash my hair for a week.”
