MotoGP, Dall'Igna: "It's nice to be in the dock with Ducati and win"

"Maybe in Losail we should have started from a more standard base, but I'm sure we will use some solutions later on. Bastianini and Martìn give their hearts, you can't help but like them"

MotoGP: Dall'Igna:

Gigi Dall'Igna is the father of that Ducati that has revolutionized MotoGP in recent seasons, constantly bringing innovation to motorcycles and often finding himself fighting with a barrier set by his rivals, worried about not being able to replicate and make the ideas from the Borgo Panigale company come to work on the track.

At Losail the story linked to the front lowering device has exploded in the paddock, but for now the Ducatis on the track will be able to continue using it and seeing as today at Mandalika there are no less than six red bikes in Q2, the competitiveness of the project as a whole is undeniable. The right choices in terms of riders, new partnerships such as those with Gresini and VR46, are bringing excellent results and Dall'Igna can only enjoy the moment, as can be perfectly clear from the words he gave to the microphones of our colleagues at Sky Sport MotoGP.

"Being in the dock and winning is nice, I don't mind it either – were the words of Dall'Igna - This is the second race, every track is different and even the bikes are very different. On some tracks some solutions perform better than others, but things can change very quickly. We also went strong in Qatar, even if we didn’t obtain much with the factory riders, but they were in the good positions before we had problems. Here we are doing well with everyone, I'm happy with what we have developed and I think we can do even better in the future. Then there will be tracks where we will suffer and we will have to manage those situations in the best possible way. "

Did you stop and think after Qatar?

"There is a time in which you have to move and one in which you need to reflect. For sure after Qatar it was right to think about what we did and that was the case. Here we made different choices, based on what we understood in Losail. There are some changes on the bike we still have to understand everything about, we are at the beginning of 2022 and we come from two complicated tests. We hadn't been racing in Sepang for two years and Mandalika was new, so they were two important tests carried out in particular conditions. It was complicated ".

But we can't talk about a bad start to the season, obviously.

"Ducati won in Qatar, we knew the 2021 bike well. Maybe it was right to start from a slightly more standard base also with the 2022 bike; this does not mean that we have decided to discard our ideas for this season, but perhaps it will be necessary to understand them better before they improve. It was a good start."

Does the front lowering device help you here?

"All evolutions bring advantages in certain situations and tracks. Here you do not brake very hard, so this is not the track that best matches the lowering solution. Some riders have decided not to use it, but these are all decisions to be re-evaluated during the course of the season, depending on the scenario of each individual track ".

What happened to Pecco and Jack in qualifying?

"Pecco started to lose the rear, so he had to slow down. He was doing a good lap, but Quartararo was going very fast. Maybe he wouldn't have made pole, but Pecco was doing a good lap. Jack was unable to put together a good lap in qualifying, he made several mistakes in Q2 ".

But is the form factor seen here what we will experience for the rest of the season?

"In my opinion we are on a particular track, we will have to return to Europe to get a good picture and draw up a real ranking. This is too particular, it is not a valid litmus test".

How are things going with Bastianini and Martìn, who are a sort of Ducati's future.

"Riders who give their hearts are always nice, they give it their all. I have to say they are both good guys and great talents, we are trying to help them and I think we are trying to give all our riders the best material possible and also from the human point of view we are helping everyone to give their best ".
