MotoGP, Bagnaia chooses the 'hybrid' engine: 2022 V4 homologated with 2021 parts

MotoGP: Bagnaia chooses the 'hybrid' engine: 2022 V4 homologated with 2021 parts

Ducati also has problems with engines, not with power but with choice. For 2022 the men of Borgo Panigale have further worked on the 4-cylinder to improve its (already excellent) performance. The result has been achieved, even if the power delivery has become a bit more cantankerous. A problem pointed out by the riders already in the first tests in Malaysia and which the team has tried to resolve by working on the electronics. Especially at the first touch of gas, the V4 has a somewhat brutal nature, a feature that not everyone likes.

In particular Pecco Bagnaia, who prefers a smoother power delivery, and after the tests in Mandalika, he took a decision: to homologate a 'hybrid' version of the engine for the season. This means that he will use the 2022 engine but with some 2021 parts, similar to what he had experienced in the last 2021 tests in Jerez.

In this way he will be able to count on a less aggressive response that is more suited to his riding style. Since two different versions of the engine cannot be homologated in the same team, Miller will also have the same specification.

The other riders with the Desmosedici GP22 (the Pramac duo made up of Martin and Zarco and Luca Marini) will all use the 2022 version of the engine.

It is not a big difference, say the men in red, who however have decided to follow the indications of Bagnaia, who is becoming more and more the point of reference in the garage.
