MotoGP, Bezzecchi: "The Ducati is six times faster than the Moto2"

“The leap from the Moto3 to the Moto2 was bigger than the one into the MotoGP. Electronics and flying lap are the two things to work on."

MotoGP: Bezzecchi:

Yesterday the team was presented in Pesaro and today they met with the media. In less than a week, Marco Bezzecchi's adventure in the MotoGP will begin with the colors of the Mooney V46. After the Sepang and Mandalika tests, the rider from Romagna is ready to inaugurate this new chapter of his racing career, full of questions and expectations.

He spoke about this and much more during the press conference before leaving for Qatar.

We’re ready to go to Losail and start the new season,” Marco began. “In fact, during the winter, we worked to prepare for and face the MotoGP adventure in the best way possible. It’ll be a tough season, because the level of the Championship is really high, but the whole team has made a great effort to be ready.”

Bezzecchi will find a Ducati in the garage that’s not the latest version, like Marini’s.

I don't consider it a disadvantage that I don't have the same bike as Luca, also because I don't have experience with the previous bike. In the tests, Ducati showed great potential, and I’ll have to learn to improve. Even if I don't have the latest evolution of the bike, I can still access the other riders’ data  and compare myself with them when needed.

He also spoke about the rider who inspires him.

I think all the Ducati riders have great style, for example, Bagnaia, as well as Miller and Aeneas. Luca also rides the bike very well, and maybe my style is close to his, since it was similar back in the days of the Moto2.

The bar has been raised in the MotoGP, but Bezzecchi has no intention of becoming discouraged.

Even when I was racing in the Moto3 and Moto2, I thought I was facing the best worldwide in the category. I don’t think there’s anything more than the MotoGP, and I that, I think, is kind of strange in some ways.

The World Championship will start next week, and his journey is just beginning.

There are still so many things to learn. But I realized that, with this Ducati, you need to be precise in describing the behavior of the electronics and, above all, effective in the flying lap. The Ducati has a fantastic front end when braking. I really like it. Compared to the Moto2, there’s a huge difference between the various brands. On the track, I followed Mir and Morbidelli, and seeing how the other  bikes behaved was cool.

He also compared the other categories.

"If I think about the past, I have to say that, from the Moto3 to the Moto2, the bike is completely different, while MotoGP goes six times faster than a Moto2, even if the size of the tires are more or less the same. So, you have to learn some things, like the electronics. It’s a long process, but I had less difficulty going from the Moto2 to the MotoGP than from the Moto3 to the Moto2. Right now, I haven’t yet reached the limit with the bike, but  I brought my ApeCar, which I bought in December,” he said smiling."

Apparently, Bezz likes the Ducati, even if they’ll have to customized it to his needs.

Power and acceleration are impressive, as is braking. The first time I tried it, I was amazed, so much so that I even said a few curse words,” he said jokingly.
