The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp team was officially presented today. A team wanted by the constructor in Iwata to help young talents grow in the Moto2. The collaboration between the Doctor's Riders Academy and Yamaha started in 2016, with the Master Camp, a sort of advanced course held every year in Tavullia for the Japanese brand’s young riders.

The team was created from that experience. “It was a surprise for me too,” Team Manager Gelete Nieto said. “My brother, Pablo, had told me about this opportunity, and I think  collaborating with the VR46 was the best possible option for Yamaha. After all, their relationship with Valentino has lasted for many years.”

Keminth Kubo and Manuel Gonzalez were chosen for the debut. The rider from Thailand had participated in the Masters Camp in 2018 and then raced for the VR46 team in 2019 in the CEV. Instead, the Spanish rider comes from the Supersport 300 (where he won the title in 2019) and raced in the Supersport 600 during the last two seasons, finishing 3rd last year with two wins.

I think they’re both great riders.” Gelete described them: “They’re very young and have a lot to learn. The important thing will be to do it step by step, without making mistakes.

This project is important for Yamaha so that it can create a place in which young riders can grow and then take them to the MotoGP. Something it was lacking, until now.

"That is the goal,” Nieto confirmed. “Yamaha wants to have a team where young people can learn, with a focus on both Thai and Japanese riders."
