MotoGP: Bastianini: "I got the time on my own and... with a full tank of gas"

The track wasn't perfect during the second day of testing in Mandalika, but the Gresini team riders still managed to get the most out of it. A seventh time for Bastianini, three tenths from Luca Marini's record, while Fabio, at his MotoGP debut, is still in a 17th position, just over seven tenths of a second.

Overall, it was a good day,” Enea explained. “I'm happy, because we took another step forward with the set-up and tried various things during the day, including a front medium. There was also time to do a little race simulation, which went quite well. At a certain point, I wanted to do a time attack, because I saw that I was getting lower and lower on the time table but, at that moment, I had a full tank of gas, and I couldn't push hard. However, I got my time on my own, without following anyone, which is how I like it. We still have to work with the medium on the rear, because the soft one, with which I feel better, Michelin won’t be bringing it. They at Michelin said we’re going to race with the medium, with which I struggled a little more, but we’ll compensate with the set-up. Now let's see what the last day has in store. I still don't know if I'll do another time attack. But, after all, we’re here to stay ahead, so we’ll try to do our best without risking too much. I feel motivated and ready for the championship.”

"It was my debut as a rookie,” Fabio di Giannantonio said. “It was a bit of an up and down. At first, I had good feelings, then I fell. So there was a moment when I couldn't improve while testing various things. In the end, we broke through with a worn medium. Then I put the soft tire on the rear, and I improved further, even if I didn't do a perfect lap. Tomorrow I'll have to do more laps to improve and do a race simulation, also to test my physical condition. The track? It has improved, but there’s only one trajectory and, if you get it wrong, you go off the track. It’ll certainly be cleaner for the race.
