The American trip ended as well as it could possibly have for the Honda Repsol team, which obtained the victory with Marquez in Austin and podium number 450 in its history. It’s no mystery that the circuit in Texas is one of Marc’s favorites, but being able to dominate the race in his condition was not foregone.
Team manager Alberto Puig takes stock of the weekend: “We had some excellent tests in Misano before arriving in Texas, so the entire team and both riders had more motivation,” he said. “The circuit is traditionally a Honda-friendly track. We’ve won many times here since 2013. Only once did we miss the win, when Marc fell while he was leading. That’s why we expected a great result on Sunday, even if the situation this year wasn’t always easy. In the end, the result was incredible and brings with it an extra special feeling, because Marc may have been able to win again and get his second win in what has been a very difficult season for him.”
The Spanish rider managed to handle himself in the best way possible, even on a very demanding circuit, and even more so with all the holes in the asphalt.
“Honestly, speaking of the entire weekend, we had some problems, but Marc was able to control himself and handled the bike very well,” the manager continued. “He knew exactly what to do with the tires and how he had to ride. We’re very satisfied with all his efforts.”
Now there’s some time to celebrate, but they have to already look to the future.
"Returning to the United States after two years was great, but there’s no time to look back, and we’re already thinking about Misano, where we’ll be going for the second time this season,” Puig emphasized. “We have a lot of data from the race and also from the tests. We hope we can improve our performance with these and fight for the podium once again.”
