MotoGP, Quartararo: “The best plan for the race is not to have a plan”

MotoGP: Quartararo: “The best plan for the race is not to have a plan”

Seeing 1’22” on the dashboard was really nice,” Quartararo admits, even if that time is not in the standings, due to a slight error that took him off the track, cancelling his best lap, which would have put him in pole. But Yamaha’s French rider still took a front row seat, the last available behind Martin and Bagnaia.

It’s an important result,” he explained. “I was struggling today to stop the bike. Turn three was especially critical for me, at least until this morning. Then I managed to progress in the FP3, right at the end.”

At this point, it won’t be easy for him against the Ducatis, which surround him on the grid. It’s difficult to think of a strategy. Actually, the best solution for Fabio seems not to strategize.

If we race in dry conditions, it’ll be much better for me. But, if it’s wet, it’ll be for everyone, and we’re here to work and get the best position. I have good sensations with a completely wet track. In the end, the best plan is not to have any, you can look at the weather forecast and think about what to do in the various conditions but, then, after the first corner, everything always changes. The only thing is to be able to choose the right tire and have fun.

Unless it rains really hard because, in that case, the race could also be postponed until Monday.

It’ll all depend on how much water there'll be at the third corner. That’s a dangerous point,” Quartararo explained. “Even though it wasn’t very wet yesterday, everyone risked falling there. Anyway, I’ll be staying in Austria between one GP and the next. So, if we race on Monday, it won’t be a problem.

Fabio also commented on Pedrosa’s return to the race.

When I signed up to go to the MotoGP, it was a shame not to be able to race with Dani. Now he’s decided on a wild card, and it’s nice to see him on the track. He’s ridden here, but it’s different to do it in a test or in a race. He rather impressed me. He’s a legend, and he’s doing really well.
