MotoGP, Bastianini: "I struggled since FP3, the race will be indecipherable"

Enea 15th on the grid: "Luckily we solved some problems, it’ll be important to manage the tyres tomorrow". Luca Marini 14th: "I was very close to getting into Q2!"

MotoGP: Bastianini:

Saturday qualifying at the Sachsenring saw Enea Bastianini in 15th position, the reigning Moto2 World Champion not exactly setting the world on fire. But it was encouraging after the previous free practice sessions, where he failed to go any better than a lowly 21st place (out of 22 total).

“I am satisfied with my performance, less with the day as a whole - he said - unfortunately, I struggled more than expected since this morning. Luckily we were able to improve and solve some problems, in fact I had excellent sensations with the hard spec on the front, unlike yesterday ".

The Avintia Esponsorama rider will therefore start from the fifth row of the grid, right next to his teammate. Thanks to the short length of the German circuit and the scheduled 30 laps, the race is expected to be decidedly hot (not only due to air and asphalt temperatures).

“The race promises to be a bit indecipherable, tyre management will play a crucial role. In any case, we will try to push hard in an attempt to make up ground on the top-10 - he continued - with a good start, we will be able to play our cards. We have made progress especially in braking, while we still have some margin in the middle section of the track from turns 4 to 7 with the turning of the gas ”.

Marini: "Clear ideas on the choice of tyres"

As mentioned, team-mate Luca Marini finished the second day on German soil in 14th position. While yesterday he was the victim of two harmless slides between FP1 and FP2, today he was more careful and put in a series of positive laps that allowed him to almost get into Q2 by a little more than a tenth.

“I would have liked to go through to the next session, it was very close, but I am quite happy as Q1 proved to be very competitive - he specified – just look at the number of factory riders and teams. We are doing a good job with the team. Tomorrow's race will not be easy at all due to the high temperatures, the goal is to start well, manage the tyres in the best possible way and bring home the best possible result. "

The scorching heat of Germany is having an effect on the MotoGP riders in their tyre selection. In FP4 the SKY VR46 Avintia rider took to the track with a set of tyres used for about 12 laps, but their performance was poor.

“It was very difficult to set my own pace, I didn't have a positive feeling on the rear. We have to understand why this does not happen with the new carcass and, for example, Quartararo manages to be consistent without accusing a drop. But he is at the top of the standings, so it’s understandable. In my small way I already have clear ideas and the choice will fall on the hard-medium option", he concluded.
