MotoGP, Nakagami: "Honda will bring a new chassis to Monday's tests"

Takaaki fifth after qualifying: "difficult to make predictions for the race, Quartararo and Morbidelli are really strong but I have a good pace"

MotoGP: Nakagami:

Once again Nakagami managed to save the day for Honda, taking fifth place on the grid at Jerez for tomorrow's race. An excellent result, considering that Bradl is twelfth and all of Marc’s other teammates did not even manage to enter Q2. The Japanese LCR team rider, after yesterday's practice sessions, decided to use the old chassis and it seems that his choice paid off.

"Yesterday I talked about the 2020 chassis, but it is not entirely correct, because it is its latest evolution - he wished to underline - As I said, it has a slightly better grip at the rear, not a huge difference, but the new one has its strengths, it also depends on the track. We need more time to evaluate them and for this the tests on Monday will be useful. There we will be able to do the tests we need and we will also be able to test a completely new chassis ”.

Before thinking about development work, however, Takaaki needs to focus on the race…

“It is difficult to make predictions for tomorrow – he explained - It seems that the Yamahas are going really strong, especially with Quartararo and Morbidelli. But in FP4 I used used tyres and, after 27 or 28 laps, I was still able to lap in a low 1’38", so I have a good pace. We still need to improve some small details, especially with regard to the electronics. I am thinking of the traction in the final part of the race ”.

It will also be necessary to see what conditions the track will be in tomorrow, because there have already been changes today.

"The grip was good, like yesterday, but there was strong wind in some parts of the track - observed the Japanese rider - In the last two sectors it was difficult to maintain the line in the fast corners."
