MotoGP, Rossi more optimistic for Jerez: "I have to return to the top positions"

"I look forward to racing on this track, I have some great memories". Morbidelli: "the competition is tougher, but I hope I can make it a podium this time"

MotoGP: Rossi more optimistic for Jerez:

The 2021 season has not started in the best possible way for the Petronas team: Qatar gave very little satisfaction to Rossi and Morbidelli, while in Portimao they tried to get back on top. Franco, in Portugal, conquered a fourth place which was useful for morale, while Valentino found some solutions to his problems in the race, even if a crash thwarted all his efforts.

Jerez, therefore, represents a particularly important appointment for the Doctor, who was on the podium for the last time on the Spanish circuit. The M1 in the 2021 version proved to be competitive in the hands of the factory riders and a 'friendly' circuit could help Valentino.

“I think Jerez is one of the circuits on the MotoGP calendar that I most look forward to racing every year, because I have some great memories from there confirmed Rossi - In fact, last year I was on the podium in the second race of the season – the Andalucia GP. My pace during the race in Portugal last time out was quite good, we made some improvements, so we go into this fourth round of the year with more optimism than before. For sure, a lot of riders will be strong in Jerez, because we all know it very, very well, but we will try our best and see what we can do to return to the top positions where we have to be.“

Franco Morbidelli was also fast in Spain last year and, in the second race, only a breakage for his M1 stopped him. For the Italo-Brazilian it is essential to resume the pace of last season in order to get back to the top area of the standings.

“The track at Jerez is really nice and I have been fast there – he explained - Last year I was very close to finishing on the podium in both races we had at Jerez, so I hope we can actually make it a podium this time. This year the competition is tougher and the level is higher, but I will be trying my hardest to stay as close as possible to the top-three and we’ll just have to wait and see if I can manage it. We need to be ready to react to the circuit and the other riders, but we are ready to give our maximum and to be the best that we can.”
