Physiotherapy, laser therapy, magnetotherapy... and, in between, three operations. It’s been nine long months for Marc Marquez who’ll undergo a medical check-up on Thursday and, if he receives the okay from the world championship doctors, he’ll officially be back on track in the third race of the championship.
“Magic” didn’t talk much during this period, but Carlos J. Garcia – the eight-time world champion’s personal physiotherapist – did with a message full of emotion, reported by Marca, with whom he recalled the rehab work.
“We gave it our all, and writing it is fast, but these almost nine months have been the longest of our lives. We gave up everything with only one goal in mind. We’ve finally reached this goal, and this repays us for all that we’ve experienced, not experienced, and suffered. The last few months have been very hard, but we’ve always tried to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Garcia, said. He moved to Cervera to look after Marc on a day-to-day basis and has always been the other part of the photos, the hands that were seen taking care of #93’s battered shoulder.
“If there’s one thing I've learned in recent months is that, to be successful, a sportsman must have talent, but not just talent. You have to add WORK, do what you have to do, and not what you feel like doing. Get up early, be punctual, constant, know how to rest, eat a healthy diet, train, suffer ... everything, without knowing until when. Everything in spite of your dreams slipping away. All with the doubt of when it’ll be possible to compete again. It seems that the light we imagined every day at the end of the tunnel is finally illuminating us.”
“You don’t have to prove anything to anyone, you’re Marc. Those of us who have been close to him during this complicated moment know that, before the sportsman, there’s a great person,” he concluded.
