Maverick Vinales dreamed of a double win at Losail, but instead he had to console himself with a fifth place with a bittersweet aftertaste. There was nothing doing this time for the Yamaha rider, who had to suffer a setback against the Ducati Pramacs and the Suzuki of Rins.

Regret could therefore be seen in his face, since the Yamaha is a very distant relative to the one that was seen in 2020.

“Too bad, because with a good start the race would have been different - he began - there are no excuses, I have to do better, because today I could certainly have achieved more. Unfortunately the start penalized me. I got off to a bad start and found myself back. All I needed to do was make a normal start to stay in contact with the leading group, but it didn't go as I hoped for”.

This is the #12’s biggest regret of the race…

“I am annoyed with how I started, as I found myself taking risks in the final part. Unfortunately, at the start, I got off the line late and the bike also wheelied. So I have to try to take a step forward for the next races, because the bike has great potential. I had confirmation of this today, just after the start I was able to be fast and have pace, coming back up and coming close to the podium ”.

However, the glass is half full…

"We are only at the beginning of this season, plus we come from two races held on the same track, so we have to stay calm. For sure, compared to last year, the bike seems to be more competitive and this is an encouraging aspect. So I will try to improve and arrive at the next GP more competitive”.

The appointment is in two weeks in Portugal…

“I am convinced that in Portimao we will not see races like here in Qatar, where there is constant overtaking and counter-overtaking. There we will see races closer to reality, even if here in Qatar the GPs were certainly exciting for the fans at home. The fact is that with so much overtaking, it becomes exhausting for a rider ”.

One final comment on what happened to Miller and Mir.

"Honestly, I didn't see anything. When I race I'm focused on myself"
