Red sky at night… Miller’s delight. OK, we mangled the saying a bit after the first day of testing in Qatar, with the Ducatis dominating on the Losail track. There are 3 of them in the top 4 and the fastest is Miller's with a time of 1'53.387, which is just 7 thousandths away from the official circuit record (tests don’t count) set by Casey Stoner in 2019 .

"I'm incredibly close, it's not normal for FP2 - said the Australian - We are all close together in the standings as well, for example Zarco is 4th but not even 2 tenths behind me. I have to admit that I'm a bit scared by qualifying, because a lot of guys will be fast. "

In a certain sense, today we witnessed a rehearsal of what will the session that will decide the grid line-up will be like…

"Tomorrow in FP3 it will be difficult to improve in the heat - observed Miller - I noticed it again today, I tried a bit to change the bike setup but for the evening I went back to the one we used in testing because the level of grip changes."

Jack has clear ideas about who his most dangerous opponent is…

"Morbidelli is very fast, he set his best time in FP1 without changing tyres - he explained - In my opinion he is the man to beat. Bagnaia is also very strong, I was in the garage when he did his fastest lap and I saw him on the screens, he was impressive ".

So everything seems to be going well, on this track the tyres shouldn't be a big problem and neither will the strong wind expected for tomorrow and Sunday...

"The grip on this track is good, the asphalt is fairly new and clean, so the rear tyre is very good - he said - We will have to see on other tracks, where the asphalt is more slippery, but I'm not particularly worried. As for the wind, it’ll probably blow in the opposite direction to today, as in the tests, and so it shouldn’t bother us too much”.

If you really want to find a defect in Jack's day, there was a crash in the first free practice session…

“I didn't hurt myself, it was caused by a combination of the wind and the medium tyre on the front. I saw that Zarco had crashed at turn 4, I knew it was easy because it is slippery there, I came in too hard and I crashed as well. I damaged the new fairing, I only had two painted, so I used the old one for safety. In the race I will use the new one, I prefer it but it is difficult to explain why. It looks better” he joked.
