MotoGP, Martin: “When you change the thrust on the Ducati, it’s impressive.”

“The bike has great potential, but it’s not easy. You reach 340 km/h in a second. Unfortunately I fell today in a dip, but luckily nothing happened.”

MotoGP: Martin: “When you change the thrust on the Ducati, it’s impressive.”

The rookies had their day in Losail and took advantage of Friday to get on their MotoGP bikes. Jorge Martin was one of them, with the Pramac team’s Ducati, after Bagnaia was promoted to the top team.

Despite Bradl’s plus three seconds and a tenth place of the day, the Spanish rider looks at the glass half full, since the stopwatch was certainly not a priority to be pursued at all costs.

My expectations have been quite fulfilled,” Martin said. “I’m happy for my debut, even though the weather conditions were not at their best, given the strong wind. Obviously, there are many things to learn with this Ducati and, as a result, I’ll watch the most experienced riders on the track to grow and improve.”

Marini and Bastianini were also there.
All three of us rookies this year are at a good level. Enea won the title, Luca finished second. We were pretty close on the track today, and it’ll be an interesting battle during the season. For my part, I can say that the bike is good. It’s not easy, but I can definitely improve thanks to the electronics too. However, I remain focused on myself, without thinking too much about the other riders.

The Spanish rider sacrificed most of his time during the winter for Ducati.
During the winter, I tried to train for a lot to prepare myself in the best way possible for this new adventure, aware of the fact that I’ll have to improve in some respects. I did a lot of cross, as well as training to keep tone and be in shape.”

He then talked about the Pramac team’s bike again.
The thing that struck me most is the change, because the power you feel every time you shift into gear is incredible. You feel the thrust under your butt. It’s crazy to have such sensations with a MotoGP. This Ducati certainly has great power. You can feel it on the straights where you reach three-hundred-and-forty kilometers per hour, but then you also need to be able to brake correctly, and I’m working on that.”

Someone also fell during the day but it was a harmless fall.
Too bad about the fall. I reached the last lap before returning. At turn three,  I hit a dip and couldn’t control the bike, ending up on the ground. It was a violent fall, but luckily I didn’t hurt myself. Sometimes accidents happen. I want to say that I feel really bad for the whole team and the group.

Then the tires came into play.
I tried two compounds on the front, and the sensations were positive. I’m aware that I have room for improvement. Instead, I tried the medium on the rear, working mainly over the long distance but without pushing hard. I have a lot to learn. I know that the MotoGP has great potential, and I want to grow.

His goal is not to rush.
We're working in a simple manner, without going into too much detail, since it's only my first day. Obviously, we made some changes to the bike, trying to find efficiency in the corners. Like I said, it’s my first day, and I need to take it one step at a time.”
