SBK: BSB, first tests of 2021 at Donington Park in about a month

Four appointments spread out over 37 days, a full schedule that will characterize the different 2021 pre-season of BSB British Superbike. In view of the opening round of the season, scheduled for 29-31 May at Oulton Park, teams and riders will have the opportunity to get to grips with their bikes in four testing sessions at some of the UK’s iconic tracks.

The official schedule

While the UK’s domestic championship will get underway very late compared to other series, the fans will get some consolation with four collective outings in April and May. They will start on April 13 in Donington Park ('National' layout), and then continue at Silverstone 'National' (April 28-29) and Snetterton (May 4-5-6). The final test will take place at Oulton Park on May 19, the same track that ten days later will host the first British Superbike round of 2021.

Why so late?

Unlike the past, the promoter MSVR (Motorsport Vision Racing) this year drew up an extended calendar in an attempt to manage and keep under control the developments related to the health emergency from Covid-19. Also (and especially ..) for this reason the season’s tests will take place exclusively in the UK, so no trips to Spain or Portugal.

"The BSB Testing Policy"

Remaining within the scope of the tests, a few weeks ago a series of strict guidelines, the so-called BSB Testing Policy, were issued which the protagonists of the top class will have to follow. Nothing sensational, but private tests are banned on any type of track from January 1 to March 31. Riders will be able to take to the track, but not with bikes in BSB configuration. Obviously, any commitments in other rounds such as World Superbike do not fall within these norms. Tests are allowed from 1 April to 14 October, but with significant restrictions: only on tracks in the UK and Ireland and a maximum of 16 days. On the other hand, there is no ban on tests at the end of the season, from 18 October to 31 December.
