MotoGP: F1 and MotoGP Australian GPs dates may be swapped

The Australian MotoGP Grand Prix could change dates, from the end of the season to the beginning.

That's what Motorsport wrote regarding a swap: the F1 GP would switch dates with the MotoGP one.

The two events are both managed by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. This year, unfortunately, also mindful of what happened last year, the race at Albert Park was postponed until November 21st, four weeks after the MotoGP race.

According to AGPC’s CEO Andrew Westacott, this opened the door for a major change of heart in terms of timing for both events.

He says there are now four options when it comes to planning for 2022 and beyond, one of which is a direct trade-off between the F1 and MotoGP events.

This would keep the distance between the two, which is important for both event management and ticket sales, and would address regular requests from riders to move Phillip Island to a fall date in search of better weather.

However, there are no guarantees yet that one of the two events will happen this year, with Australia’s borders closed to the rest of the world.

Anyone who enters the country is still subject to a fourteen-day quarantine in a hotel. A practice that is unlikely to be abandoned until vaccines have been significant administered worldwide.

Australia’s vaccination program started today (Monday) and is expected to be completed by October.

As we all know, the Australian Open was indeed held, but the athletes and professionals had to undergo a two-week quarantine.
